This year, both VACA, Inc. and our Executive Director, Katie Morgan, were honored to be nominated for the Norman Melhiser Samaritan Award. While we didn’t take home the trophy, we walked away with something far more important: renewed purpose, overwhelming support, and a reminder of why we do this work in the first place.

At VACA, we don’t serve for recognition—we serve because no one else will. In the past year alone, we’ve helped vulnerable adults get life-saving medical care, prevented unjust evictions, made sure people could die with dignity, and preserved life stories that would have otherwise been forgotten.

We may not have received a standing ovation at a gala—but the quiet victories we achieve every day are their own kind of award. And we’re just getting started.

If you believe in standing up for the people others overlook, join us. Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or simply sharing our mission—you can help us keep showing up, one life at a time.

Because real change doesn’t always come with a plaque.

Sometimes it just comes with showing up, again and again.
